Or take our industry, back in 1983 if you wanted a mortgage you went to your local bank. Mortgage brokers were not even on the radar screen! Fast forward 10 years and brokers now had some presence, but we were still competing against the banks. In fact, most brokers advertised, "We beat the banks" as their main focus. Fast forward 10 years to 2003 and brokers have their best year and top out at over 70% market share. Today, when people think of getting a mortgage loan they DO NOT think about their local bank. The marketplace has completely changed. But the writing is on the wall. Broker's market share has topped out. Lenders have begun to take back marketshare and unless you re-invent something, the law of the S-curve says it will continue to dwindle. Do nothing, and you will continue to fight against other brokers over an increasingly dwindling volume! Ah, to go back in time knowing what we know now.
